Website Analysis

The most important element of a Musician's website is their Star image and the name associated to it, the band/ artist's name being the key element to recognition and branding. Therefore emphasis is taken on the name it self, it can be turned into a logo accompanied by a motif or symbol which my represent the band or the upcoming music theme. So for the analysis we'll be looking at, Marina , Beach house , Foster the people , and okaykaya 's websites. All of them fall under the indie pop genre category. Starting with logos: 3 of the 4 artists have prominent name logos presented on the websites, Okay kaya does not have a distinctive logo present on her website and the website introduces us to her music video auto playing on silent of her song Durer that establishes her face as her star image. more on music video display later on in this post. Introduction to Websites

A website is a collection of publicly accessible, interlinked Web pages that share a single domain name. Websites can be created and maintained by an individual, group, business or organization to serve a variety of purposes. Together, all publicly accessible websites constitute the World Wide Web.  The purpose of our website is to promote the artist, their  latest album (in our case, a debut album) and to make information regarding any promotional activities such as fan signs and concerts easily available to their audience while providing maximum access to the artist.

Inspiration for Digipak

For our cover we looked several covers with varying popularity, within popular Pop and indie pop genre categories. We decided that we would promote the artist's star image on the cover by using some type of portrait shot to grant access to the star (Andrew Goodwin). We decided upon a medium close up which displayed the artist's face till their shoulders or a little bit of collar bone area depending on the angle it's shot at to capture the artist's expressions well. Some examples include: The Weekend - The beauty behind the madness Lomepal - FLIP Bipolar Sunshine - Drowning Butterflies (single) Bleachers - Don't take the money (single) All of the examples above show the star image of the artists in mostly well lit high-key lighting except the weekend, However with the black and white contrast it allows us to see the details of his face more clearly despite the physical ripped photograph collage effect applied on the cover. these shots are mid way

Digipak Analysis

To plan and design our own digipak, we thought it best to first research into pre-existing digipaks. We already had a look at what indie pop album covers look like so we have a good idea what codes and conventions they follow in the research phase of our project. However, since most indie albums and EPs are not physically manufactured, I decided to have a look at some pop digipaks along with indie pop digipaks to better understand what our digipak is supposed to look like or what its supposed to oppose if we're feeling brave. Lust for Life- Lana Del Rey Front Back Inside There's a heavy emphasis on the artist themselves, covering three out of four sides. A distinct colour palette of blood orange and cream is being used, the cream making up the majority of the digipak while the typography is in blood orange. For the CD itself the colour scheme has been inverted. The inside left side is the same as the back, outlining the track list for the album. T
