Music Videos

A music video is a short film that combines music with visual imagery. Thought it first started out as a way to create ambiance in films which had no other sounds since technology for recording audio was not very sophisticated, it soon evolved into a mutually beneficial tactic of marketing and exposure for both film makers and musicians. With time this idea of using music videos for marketing has been developed and refined to an extent where every album needs a music video to promote it's release and sometimes even two! Though music videos exist predominantly to market and promote music recordings and improve sales, they are also used for creative and artistic expression. Music videos often help bring audiences one step closer to the narrative the musician is trying to sell because now they not only have the lyrics to piece meaning together but also something visual. Different sorts of music videos exist. While some may be very heavily reliant on choreography and have no surface

Team

A noticeable difference from last year is that for this year's project we will be working in teams of three. Said team mates were assigned in today's class. My team mates consist of Mahnoor Naveed, who shares my taste in music and ideas with some pre-existing editing skills which will benefit the team greatly and Mahum Imran who has something none of the other members do, amazing social skills, which will make the eventual location recce, and other social elements of the project smoother. I look forward to working with these people. We've named our team, SAD?? since we're smart enough to know the next year will be as tiring as it will be enriching. Teamwork makes the dreamwork!

Set Brief

For my media portfolio in the second year of A-levels, me and my class will be attempting the music package promotion. Our tasks will be to essentially promote an artist's music. The project essentially divides into three tiers: a music video, a website and a digipack. These activities will unlike last year, submerge us in not one form of media but several: print, social and video. Through these we will get to explore production processes, technologies and contextual significance of media products. The project will be divided into three phases which go into the end product, namely, research, planning and production. The research process includes research into our target audience, genre, techniques, pre-existing  relevant media products and their codes and conventions through an assortment of activities such as keen image, editing and mis-e-scene analysis, surveys etc. The planning phase helps us challenge all the knowledge we have gained through the research process and apply it

Introduction

A year has passed. I'd like to claim that it was nothing but a breeze but that's hardly true. There were struggles. There were sacrifices (mostly my sleep). But at the end of the day I found, the skills I acquired and the growth I experienced through the entire process of creating a magazine are very valuable to me. I learned numerous things including creative processes, using applications for various purposes, Photoshop and even how to market and distribute my media product to an extent. Things might have been hard at times and frustrations may have risen but ultimately I got to put forward a narrative I wanted to present and that makes me ecstatic. You can find it here: emannadeem81.blogspot.com I look forward to the (mis)adventures I'll set out on this year. Stay updated!
