Concepts for our Music Video

Now that we've established what the song is about, it's time to decide on a concept for our music video. My team and I sat together and brainstormed various themes and ideas we would like to incorporate in our music video: Moving On: The music video would start out as the song implies, hung over a person who clearly doesn't reciprocate the extent of their devotion and affection. The protagonist of the music video would continue their efforts at ignoring circumstances until a shift in the current equilibrium occurs, making them realise how unhealthy their relationship actually is, leading them to discover their sovereign self.  Post Break Up Loneliness: This concept would deal with the themes of coping with loneliness and the often ugly symptoms it can rear such as depression, anti social behavior, low self-esteem etc. In this concept, however, there is no happy ending, her lover moves on quick while she remains in her bubble of misery, slowly isolating hers

Artist and Album Name Selection

So today in class my team and I decided to have a proper discussion when finalizing our Artist's name. We knew and had established that Indie Bands have very peculiar names, therefore it was important that our artist's name reflected the same indie spirit which would help solidify our project. In the group discussion we all pitched in odd and absurd names that could qualify as a band name while keeping in mind a vague idea of the type of theme we wanted to follow. Names ranged from 'Nuclear Family to Female Despondency'. Then we voted for a name which was best liked by all three of us team members! In conclusion we chose the name "RedTide Rats" which best fit our future planned colour theme for our album and cover. We originally chose the name Blue Water Rats but ironically that had already been assumed by a real artist, showing us that we were at least on the right track and following codes and conventions admirably. The name also gives us some creative spa

Song Lyrics and Meaning

We want the concept of our music video to be somewhat related to the lyrics, since the majority of our target audience wants to see that (see  Survey ). So it only makes sense for us to have a look at the lyrics and meaning of the song. Lyrics: I Got Your Message- Cults (Ft Christopher Owens) I don't believe it I must be dreaming I got your message  I heard the beep beep I don't believe it I must be dreaming 'Cause I got your message I heard the beep beep I need a way out I cannot get out It's so much harder When you're backing down And I know that my back's Good for a few laughs That's what I do my best  To turn it up, tune it out But I don't believe it I must be dreaming 'Cause I got your message I heard the beep beep And I don't believe it I must be dreaming 'Cause I got your message I heard the beep beep You're making big decisions But nobody is there Your pai

Introduction to our Song

So now it was time for us to choose a song for our music video. We all heard a lot if indie songs and then shortlisted a few songs each one of us liked. We listened to them together in class and then had the whole class vote for what they thought was the best song especially in regards to making a music video. Personally I was stuck upon another song but the song was copyrighted and after a few listens and brainstorming, I quickly warmed up to the song we ended up choosing and was most voted for, “ I got your message” by the Cults. Cults is an American indie pop band formed in New York City in 2010.They are signed to Sony and in the name of , a record label that was set up by British singer Lilly Allen. We really liked the music of the song we selected. The beat was quite catchy. We actually started to sing the song while we were listening to it. The song was originally sung by the cults feat. Christopher owens but due to copyrights we had to choose the cover of this song.

Survey Results

Now that we have an ample number of responses, sixty nine, we can use these to understand the preferences of our target market. This will help us create a media product which is more likely to have high sales despite being a niche product. Since roughly 74% of our target market picked YouTube as their primary source of discovering new music, my team will prioritise this platform when we release our music video. This way we're likely to reach a large portion of our audience quickly. The technological age has certainly begun. While YouTube being the most popular choice in the first question may have somewhat given away the results of this question, online being most people's preference, we find applications such as iTunes and Google Play to be used by a quantifiable part of our target market. We will therefore include one of the mentioned applications in our distribution plan. Since the majority of our target audience appreciates the artist playing an activ

Survey

Now that we have established our target market, the next logical step is to discover what exactly it is that our target audience wants to see in our media product so we may maximise sales of the album. The survey is designed to record their preferences regarding not just the music video but also the digi pack, an element which is just as important. The survey also takes into account elements they might dislike. This survey was created using SurveyMonkey and spread in Pakistan as well as our secondary locations, the US and the UK. Target Market

The target market is a specific market which is chosen or created with different segments of the market so a product may be marketed and created in a way that caters said market. Our target market is: Geographic: Pakistan, USA and UK We're choosing to release the album in these regions as the album is in English  and all of these countries except Pakistan have English as their first language. Pakistan is included due to origins of the artist themselves . Demographic: Age: 15-30 years old Secondary Age: 30-45 years old Gender: Male and Female Social Class: Middle Class Secondary Social Class: Upper Class Education: Secondary education on wards Occupation: Students Indie Pop is a genre which is mostly listened by youngsters which is why we chose 15-30 year olds and students as our primary target market. A certain level of education is needed to understand certain nuances in the mentioned genre thus we chose the education level to be secondary education on wards. We

Market Segmentation

The market for a product can always be divided into groups of people based on various different characteristics and their needs. The market is usually divided by: Geographics: This is the division of consumers defined by geographical boundaries. It can pertain of regions, countries, populations etc. Demographic: This divides buyers on the basis of their personal and social attributes. Some common examples of demograhics are age, ethnicity, social class, education and occupation. Psychographic: While demographics look at individual attributes, psychographics looks at more general themes such as the lifestyles, values and attitudes of a certain group. Experts have divided the general population into six groups: Aspirers: These are typically younger people who care about appearance and image and will be oriented towards persona and fashion. They are considered materialistic and are often of high status, something they look for in their consumer goods as well. Succ
